Music is an important part of how we glorify God.
St. John's Adult Choir
The Adult Choir at St. John's is always welcoming new volunteer singers. Professional section leaders provide supporting structure for the choir and offer occasional solos. The choir leads congregational singing of hymns and service music, and sings an eclectic array of anthems on Sunday mornings at the 10:00am Eucharist service. Composers range from Hildegard von Bingen (10th century) to Morten Lauridsen (21st century)
Sound files and YouTube videos are sent out for at-home practice, so sight-reading skills are not required.
We have Wednesday evening rehearsals once or twice a month from 7:30-9:00pm. See the Weekly Update to confirm. Otherwise, we rehearse on Sunday mornings at 9:00am.
If you wonder if you might like to sing, but have questions, please ask Frances Fitch!
Musical Activities for Young Singers or Instrumentalists
Young singers and instrumentalists are encouraged to participate by joining the Adult Choir on Christmas Eve or at Easter, by playing their instrument or a handbell in a Sunday service.
At present, we are operating on a project structure, spending several weeks ahead in preparation. Some of this is together, when schedules allow, and some of it is with sound files that can be listened to at home or in the car or with videos. Making music with others is a unique pleasure and learning opportunity. Please consider giving your child or grandchild this gift, and speak to Frances!
